In theory, this makes sense.

I’d love to see a case study with a random creator and see the process of being able to launch with the right foundation and 100 subscribers in it -I’m pretty sure that’s what the majority of the creators here would love to have but don’t know how to do.

Personally, I’ll eventually go for a solution-focused product and a non-paywall subscription, so it doesn’t apply to me. But for the community at large, that case study would be pretty cool!

Hi Kelly,

I love this question! Where I see most people struggle is in a few key areas: the first is having the proper foundation. For example, many are still using the default email template and About page content.

The other area is consistency - The more consistent you are in your publishing schedule, the faster you will grow.

The third area is not understanding Notes and how to use it correctly for discovery and growth.

My best case study is my situation. I was on Substack for about 3 months and only reached 11 subscribers. I was very inconsistent, had not set up my home page correctly, was using the default templates, and did not understand Notes.

One day, I became so frustrated that I committed to studying what others were doing, and that's when I started to grow.

That was only 6 months ago, and today I have more than 4,100 subscribers. What I teach others on Substack is based on my lived experience. I know what it takes to grow and it was based on extensive research and trial and error. The time I spent resulted in lost opportunities and hours spent trying to figure it out, testing, failing and then repeating until it worked. I know that frustration well, which is why I now help other people get from A to Z faster by teaching them what to do. I show them what works and the only thing they need to do is execute.

That was a great case study, indeed.

When I left Substack Notes wasn’t a thing. Just came back a couple of weeks ago and WOW! Notes is THE heart of Substack, now.
